Do you feel the same? The German class work is pending and you have no plan how to prepare for it? Usually essays on different topics are required, in class you get tons of confusing worksheets that do not make your preparation easier.
Nevertheless, that is no reason to despair. I would like to give you some help here, which will help you with a little practice to write a really good essay. After all, no master has fallen from the sky. With a few small rules and my tips, you will be able to deliver a good class.
Each essay consists of an introduction, a main part and a conclusion
For any kind of stories, essays and descriptions you need some form of introduction.
Now imagine that your teacher has to read and correct between 25 and 30 sets several times, which is not always easy and can sometimes be exhausting. Teachers like to lose their desire and correct only for the 0-8-15 principle.
That’s why it’s especially important that with your introduction you deviate a bit from the standard ones to motivate the proofreader for the fair correction of your entire essay. This works if you know some little helpful tricks.
For most essays in your homework and class work, you have stories, reports, and other texts that you can use as the basis for the various edits. That’s why it’s important to have the following criteria in your introduction.
However, not all the facts are given and of course you can always specify only those who are known to you!
Headline or title of the text Always write the complete title of the text and do not rephrase it.
Author of the text Again, the full name is important as it is stated.
Genre Most of the time you already know the topic of the work and you know if you have a short story, a poem, a newspaper article or similar, you should definitely mention that.
Publication Is it a particular newspaper in which your text appeared, or is it part of a novel or a play? Do you have a complete short story or reading as a basis? Either you find in the question of your teacher or at the end of the text the source, where the text has appeared and that must necessarily with in your introduction.
Publication date You will usually find the release date right next to the place of publication – be sure to write it down. It is important that you not only add the year number, but write it somewhere on a slip, because at the latest, if you should interpret the text, the specified time is very important to understand the behavior of the people.
Short Summary Here it is your task to reproduce the content of the text in two or three short sentences in a completely neutral and unrated way. Summarize the most important facts so that the introduction becomes a round thing.
Now you know a lot about the facts of an introduction, but how do you get your teacher to read your essay with interest?
Here are some helpful tips:
Do you know the sentence?
In the story of …… “is it about”?
Very boring, but there are some better formulations!
The story (insert text) tells …
The text (insert text type) reports from …
The poem is about … In the text (insert text type) we read …
The author (name of the author) writes in his text (insert text type or insert title).
Example: The short story by Wolfgang Borchert “The Bread” tells (us) about a couple that.
You are missing better words for “author”?
But what can you do with your introduction, if you have no text for the class work, but only a topic or a question for a discussion? After all, here you have no facts such as author, place and year of publication
Here you only need a few phrases that you can use right at the beginning of your essay to find a suitable transition to the topic.
- According to media reports .
- In the last months (weeks, years, decades – depending on the topic)
- More and more teenagers (children, adults, boys, girls, pensioners)
- Nowadays we are more often confronted with the topic / the problem…
If you follow these few tips, you can write an exciting and interesting introduction and get your teacher to pursue your body and end with enthusiasm.
With some good transitions you can choose depending on the task, then you will be able to easily go into the main part:
- In general
- If we take a closer look
- It is obvious
- It’s hard to believe
- It can not be denied
